Laurel and Hardy brought immense joy and happiness to millions around the world with their gift of laughter, the result of an abiding friendship. Whereas the characters they played were always at odds with each other with Hardy frustrated as he tried to to teach Laurel how to do things properly, off-screen they were the closest of friends. Apparently they never argued over anything; not each other’s screen time or money. The only disagreement they ever had was how untidy Hardy’s hair should look in a scene. They were the perfect compliment for each other, with Laurel, the more accomplished stage actor, writing most of the scripts and editing the films, and Hardy knowing better what was required in front of the camera.
One of the 'Alter Egos' series which celebrates the yin and yang of creative partnerships which have produced inspired work in the fields of art, music and movies. These mirror-image style compositions are designed to be hung with whoever the owner feels most affinity to at the top, or can be rotated on a regular basis to keep the proposition ‘fresh’.
