Sir Ian McKellen has played Hamlet three times in his career - the first time in 1971 and then 50 years later at the age of 81 - and last year performed with the Edinburgh Festival Ballet Company, sharing the role with lead dancer Johan Christiansen. The beanie hats that McKellen wore at each performance were auctioned after each show to support a bursary fund to help future young dance students at The Edinburgh Festival Ballet School.
