Orson Welles (1915-1985) was the legendary American actor, director, screenwriter and producer considered to be one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Always ahead of his time, he directed an entirely African American adaptation of Macbeth for the stage in the 1930’s and broke new ground in cinema with Citizen Kane in 1941. At this time, when wine was scarce due to rationing during World War II, he could be found in the tiny cellar of The French House pub in Soho sampling fine wines with another Hollywood legend, Errol Flynn.
