Just when everyone thought Hitchcock had reached the peak of his filmmaking prowess with Psycho released in 1960, he followed it with another classic, The Birds, based loosely on an environmentally-conscious fable by Daphne Du Maurier (who also wrote Rebecca). By this time, Hitchcock was famous for his brief on-screen anonymous appearances, but in The Birds he went one better and featured not just himself but his dogs! Stanley and Geoffrey were a pair of Sealyham Terriers, and they featured in the pet shop scene at the opening of the movie being walked by their famous owner.
